Quantum Foam was an exhibition of film work by UK artist Mel Brimfield which toured across galleries in Ireland from 2014-2015, the artist’s first showing in Ireland.
The exhibition included the title work, Quantum Foam, which Marie commissioned in her role as Director of Kinsale Arts Festival. Taking Harold Pinter’s recurring milieu of choice, the isolated room, as a key reference point, the film contrived to articulate the gallery space as a hotly contested mutable territory with a monologue delivered by a virtuoso solo performer, in equal parts humorous and menacing. Participating galleries include The LAB, Dublin, Wexford Arts Centre, Galway Arts Centre and Luan Gallery, Athlone.
A project site, which includes an interview with the artist and essay by critic Francis Halsall, can be viewed here.
